A man has been charged by police investigating the 31-year-old unsolved murder of a teenage girl.

Colin Campbell, 65, was held on suspicion of murdering Claire Woolterton.

The 17-year-old was found by a passer-by, stabbed and strangled on a towpath alongside Barry Avenue in Windsor, Berkshire, just after 6am on August 28 1981.

The arrest of Campbell was made by officers from Thames Valley Police's major crime review team who have been reinvestigating the death of Claire, who lived with her family in Yeading, west London.

Police said Campbell, formerly of west London, will appear at Slough Magistrates' Court on December 4 charged with her murder.
