A woman who claimed to have lost her baby after being shot as she held a party to reveal its gender lied about being pregnant, police said.

Cheyanne Willis, 21, was shot in the thigh at the so-called gender reveal party on July 8.

Her cousin Autum Garrett was killed in the shooting and seven others, including three children, were injured when two suspects stormed the Ms Willis’ Cincinnati home, according to police.

Ms Willis, who posed for pictures showing off what she claimed was a baby bump at the party, told police she miscarried the unborn child in hospital during the aftermath of the shooting.

However, detectives said on Monday that Ms Willis had not been pregnant at the time of the attack and they had been given false information, The Sun reported.

A statement said: “Police have been given information we have found to be false. “Hours and days have been wasted following leads known to be lies when they were provided to our officers.

“From the very beginning of this investigation, we have met significant resistance that is uncommon from victims of crime wanting a resolution.

"As an example, we were led to believe an unborn child was murdered in this incident only to find out that was not the case.

“That information is not provided to embarrass anyone, only to provide a fair understanding of the challenges we have faced in the past nine days.”

No arrests have been made over the shooting.
