Wilbur the sausage dog reunited with owners after getting lost in Australian bushfire

A sausage dog has been reunited with his owners after Australian firefighters found him lost and alone, surrounded by raging bushfires.

Wilbur the dog was found by RFS firefighters on Wednesday night as they tackled a fire trail near Termeil in southeastern New South Wales.

The little pup was running down the track, with flames roaring on both sides, when the crew picked him up and took him back to their base at Burrill Lake, 9News reported.

The RFS and the local broadcaster then set about trying to find Wilbur's family. This morning, they finally made contact and reunited him with owner Paul.

The reunion came as firefighters in the area brace for tough conditions today with temperatures expected to climb above 30C.

Across the state, 100 wildfires continue to burn, of which 73 are out of control.

The NSW Rural Fire service has issued widespread total fire bans for today, with hot and windy conditions expected to worsen across the state.

It comes days after a koala named Lewis, who was rescued from New South Wales' blazing bushland, succumbed to his burns.
