This was the moment a bus fell through a crater on a road in Brazil, before it was washed away by rising flood waters.

The bus was travelling along the highway between the cities of Itaituba and Ruropolis in the northern Para state when it began sinking into the ground.

Fortunately all the passengers on board were able to evacuate the vehicle before it dropped into the hole.

There were no injuries in the incident on Monday, according to reports.

Bystanders filmed the moment the bus fell and shared the footage on social media sites.

Thousands of people living in parts of northern Brazil have been affected by floods in recent weeks.

In the northern state of Amazonas, hundreds of residents living in the city of Boca do Acre were last week forced to flee their homes as the Purus River burst its banks.

The country's rainy season generally lasts from the end of the year until May.
