Two people were killed and at least 23 injured when a suspected drunk driver ploughed into a crowd during the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Texas.
A man and a woman died as the driver tried to flee police and hit their moped.
Five other festival goers were critically hurt as the motorist sped through a crowd of people, before hitting a taxi and a parked van.
He was finally caught by police after being shot with a stun gun.
The incident took place at around 12.30am at the height of the evening’s festivities, with musical performances under way at clubs in the area.
It stunned revellers at the annual music, film and interactive conference - where Spandau Ballet this year premiered a new film and played their first US gig for 30 years.
The driver, who has not yet been identified, was held in custody and faces two counts of capital murder and 23 counts of aggravated assault with a vehicle.
Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said the casualty toll could have been much higher as moments earlier the street had been full of concert-goers.
The collision happened outside The Mohawk club, where rapper Tyler The Creator was playing.
University student Jayda Luna, 21, said the car was going “at a crazy speed”.
He said: “I saw bodies fly into the air, and there was blood and it was unbelievable. It was the most horrific thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
“We were inches from getting hit. I was trying to comfort my girlfriend - she was in tears, crying. I was trying to make her not look at it, but we had to walk through all the stuff to get to our car and there were bodies blocks away from the Mohawk.”
