Smile for the birdie: abandoned frogmouth chicks make their debut

These fluffy little birds are in the peak of health after being rescued five weeks ago.

This dinky pair happily posed for the cameras at the tender age of five weeks old.

Staff at Chicago's Brookfield zoo have been nurturing the frogmouth siblings since they were abandoned by their parents.

The diminutive tawny frogmouth chicks - a nocturnal bird related to the nightjar - hatched on July 9th and 11th respectively.

Today they flapped around their enclosure looking relaxed and healthy, showing no signs of their uncertain start in life. These little birds are sure to have a bright future ahead of them.
