A singer has shared her "hurt feelings" after a man yelled sexual heckles at her show.

Maggie Rogers said she was "furious" after an audience member yelled "take your top off" before her acoustic set in Austin, Texas.

Taking to Twitter to share her ordeal, the folk-pop artist claimed the outburst took place during a "vulnerable" segment where she spoke about "growth and change".

She wrote: "Last night in the middle of this speech a man yelled 'take your top off', another joined in and yelled 'you are cute though'.

"I was stunned. Furious. Fuming. Confused and also - on a really basic level - it really hurt my feelings."

The performer said there is a "deep amount of trust" with her fans to create a space to "amplify each other, to allow relief, to allow release".

She stated she is privileged to make music and has a lot of respect for the craft - and will not stand for abuse.

"I want to use this moment to be very, very clear," she added.

"There is no space for harassment or disrespect or degradation of any kind at my show.

"Be kind to each other out there."

Ms Rogers rose to fame when her song "Alaska" was played to Pharrell Williams during a class at New York University, where she was a student.

The session - which was filmed - went viral online and she found herself in the middle of a record label bidding war.

She has since worked with the Jonas Brothers and performed at Glastonbury.

Her debut album "Heard It In A Past Life" was released earlier this year.
