Shark vs seal: Incredible moment great white narrowly misses its prey

Ramzy Alwakeel20 August 2015

Amazing footage has captured the moment a great white shark leaps out of the water in an effort to catch a seal in mid-jump.

The video, shot by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy in Cape Cod, shows the huge animal leave the water, off the coast of Massachusetts, before trying to snatch its prey in the air.

But incredibly the seal manages to dodge the shark's enormous mouth, rebounding off and flying back into the water.

Great white sharks grow up to 20ft and weigh up to 2000kg.

Dr Greg Skomal, working at the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries, said two other 12ft sharks were identified in the area during the expedition.

As well as seals, great white sharks have been known to prey on dolphins, birds and even other sharks.
