According to Die Welt, a suspect had also been shot and was being held by police.

Two members of the public had suffered minor injuries.

Munich's Merkur newspaper reported that witnesses said the suspect took a police officer's pistol and then shot her, and also injured others at the scene.

Riehlein said the area has been secured and that there was no danger to the wider public.

"There is no danger to the public," said a spokeswoman for the police.

Bavarian radio reported: "According to police information it is probably not a terrorist attack"
