A man wearing a ‘killer-clown’ mask has died after stepping on a landmine in Cambodia, according to reports.

The man trod on a mine which detonated after scaring residents of Samraong in northwestern Cambodia by dressing up as a clown and reportedly acting in an aggressive manner.

According to the Times of Cambodia local residents chased the ‘killer clown’ into the jungle where they then heard a blast and realised the man must have stepped on a landmine.

Some residents went to investigate while others reported the incident to the police.

The man could not be identified due to the extent of his injuries, local police told the newspaper.

But he is believed to be a 25-year-old local man who had returned to Cambodia to visit relatives from the US, where he was studying.

Police told the Times that “there is little doubt” that the dead man was a local 25-year-old who was reported missing by his family on the day of the incident.

The ‘killer-clown’ craze swept the US and has led to arrests in the UK.
