Former Playboy model Karen McDougal is now free to discuss her alleged affair with Donald Trump.

Ms McDougal, 46, has settled her lawsuit with a tabloid over an agreement that stopped her from discussing it.

She said the settlement, made on Wednesday with the National Enquirer's parent company, "restores to me the rights to my life story."

In August 2016, American Media Inc. (AMI) paid Ms McDougal $150,000 (£105,500) for the rights to her story about the alleged relationship.

But the story never ran.

The White House has denied that the president, who married Melania in 2005, had an affair with Ms McDougal.

Under the agreement, Ms McDougal can reportedly keep the $150,000 she was paid.

But AMI has the rights to up to $75,000 for any future profits from her story about the relationship.

Ms McDougal had said the president tried to offer her money after the first time they had sex in 2006.

In her first television interview, she told CNN she refused to accept the money, adding: “I’m not that kind of girl”.

She also later detailed the alleged 10-month relationship and said she travelled to Trump properties in New York, California and New Jersey.

In the interview with Anderson Cooper last month she described the moment he tried to offer her money: “I had this look on my face. It must have been so sad because I have never been offered money like that before.

"I thought does he think that I’m in this for money or why I’m here tonight or is this a normal thing, I didn’t know.

“That’s not me. I’m not that kind of girl. And then he said ‘oh, you’re realty special.

"So I left and I got into the car and started crying and it really hurt me but I went back."

Ms McDougal said it left her feeling terrible about herself. However she said that they got along well with each other.

"I thought does he think that I’m in this for money or why I’m here tonight or is this a normal thing, I didn’t know. That’s not me. I’m not that kind of girl. And then he said ‘oh, you’re really special.

"So I left and I got into the car and started crying and it really hurt me but I went back."
