Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has denied "groping" a news reporter at an event 18 years ago.

Trudeau told reporters he did not recall any “negative actions” taking place on the day on which the allegations were said to have taken place.

Canada’s leader, who was a 28-year-old teacher, was at a music festival in British Columbia in a bid to raise funds for an avalanche support charity.

In the days after the event, an article appeared in a local newspaper accusing Trudeau of “groping” an unnamed female reporter covering the day.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister was asked about the allegations for the first time since taking over as the country’s leader.

He said: “I remember that day in Creston well.

“I had a good day that day. I don’t remember any negative interactions that day at all.”

Last month, a statement from Trudeau’s office said he “doesn’t think he had any negative interactions” at the music festival.
