'It looks like another terrorist attack': Donald Trump sends condolences after Paris shooting

Donald Trump has responded to the Champs Elysees shooting saying “it looks like another terrorist attack” after a gunman opened fire in Paris.

The US President addressed the armed assault on police in the French capital at a press conference in the White House on Thursday evening.

“What can you say? It just never ends,” he said of global terror threats after a gunman opened fire near the Franklin Roosevelt subway station.

At least one officer was killed and another was wounded in the shooting, police say. The armed man was so killed.

The US President said: “First of all our condolences from our country to the people of France, again it is happening it seems.

“It’s a terrible thing that is going on in the world today but it looks like another terrorist attack and… what can you say, it just never ends.

"We have to be strong and we have to be vigilant.”

The French Interior Ministry said the officers appeared to have been deliberately targeted.

Armed police were deployed to the landmark after the shooting.

One witness told French television station BFM that she heard a shooting, saw a man's body on the ground and the area was quickly evacuated by police.

The latest incident came just three days after a tense first round of elections for a new French President.

The motive for the attack is not yet known.
