A GoFundMe page set up for the victims of the Las Vegas massacre raised more than £2 million in 24 hours after donations poured in from all over the world.

The page, which aims to provide relief and financial support to the victims and families of the shooting, has raised $2,899,104 (£2.18 million) of its $3.5 million (£2.6 million) target in less than a day

Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak from Las Vegas set up the fundraiser yesterday. He wrote: “We are raising funds to assist the victims of the tragic Las Vegas shooting. I spent last night with Sheriff Lombardo at Clark County's only level-one trauma center.

“Funds will be used to provide relief and financial support to the victims and families of the horrific Las Vegas mass shooting.”

A number of high-profile donations are helping Sisolak to reach his goal, including $50,000 (£37,600) from NFL team Oakland Raiders.

The team, which is set to relocate to Las Vegas within the next few years, released a statement on Monday about the attack.

"The Raiders family is shocked and saddened by the tragedy in Las Vegas and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, families and first responders," the team said.

The biggest donation so far came from Stephen J Cloobeck, an American businessman and founder of Diamond Holiday resorts. He donated $390,000 (£294,000) to the cause.

Another large donation came from Los Angeles-based street artist Marquis Duriel Lewis, who contributed $50,000.

In an update on the GoFundMe page, Mr Sisolak wrote: “Thank you everyone for your donations. Please keep sharing this with your family and friends.”

One donor, Yvonne Knowles, wrote: “These donations don't bring back loved ones, but they do help place them to rest with a little less stress.”
