A French fitness blogger died from a heart attack after being hit in the chest by an exploding whipped cream dispenser.

Rebecca Burger, 33, left, had 154,000 followers on Instagram and 55,000 Facebook fans with whom she shared exercise and food images.

Ms Burger’s family announced her death online saying it was the result of “a domestic accident” and posted a photograph of a gaspowered whipped cream canister similar to the one that struck her.

They warned that there were “tens of thousands of faulty devices” in circulation.

French media reported she died of cardiac arrest after the incident.

French consumer groups have warned about faulty connectors on the gas capsules, which make them break and expel at high speed.

Injuries have included broken teeth, tinnitus and the loss of an eye, said consumer magazine 60 Millions.

One manufacturer issued a product recall, but only 25,000 were returned out of 160,000 sold, Le Parisien reported.
