Barack Obama seemed to be making the most of newly acquired free time by lapping up the sunshine with a round of golf in California.

The former President was pictured enjoying his first day out of office on the Porcupine Greek Golf Club course in Palm Springs.

Whilst his successor, President Trump, spent the day criticising “shameful” media reports of small inauguration crowds Mr Obama reportedly enjoyed a leisurely day at the gym and the private golf course owned by billionaire Larry Ellison.

He was seen looking jovial as he chatted and laughed with fellow golfers and his entourage.

Following President Trump's inauguration on Friday, the Obamas said goodbye to the White House and boarded a helicopter to Maryland.

Mr Obama tweeted on Friday that he and his wife were going on holiday but assured followers he would be “back to work” after their return.
