Donald Trump labels Kim Jong-un a 'madman shooting rockets all over the place' in fresh attack on North Korea

Donald Trump has labelled Kim Jong-un a “madman” in his latest attack on North Korea.

The North Korean leader, dubbed “Little Rocket Man” by Trump, “should have been dealt with a long time ago”, the US president told supporters at a rally in Alabama.

Vowing to confront Pyongyang over their nuclear weapons regime, Mr Trump said: “We can't have madmen out there shooting rockets all over the place.

"Rocket Man should have been handled a long time ago. Little Rocket Man, we’re going to do it because we really have no choice.”

“He’s talking about a massive weapon exploding over the Pacific Ocean which causes tremendous, tremendous calamity,” he added.

Appearing to further goad the North Korean dictator, the President said: “I want to tell you something, and I’m sure he’s listening cause he watches every word, and I guarantee you one thing; he’s watching us like he never watched anybody before.”

The fresh row came just 24-hours after Kim branded Trump “deranged” in response to his scathing UN speech.

In a highly unusual personal statement issued via state media, he said the American leader is "unfit to hold the prerogative of supreme command of a country" and described the president as "a rogue and a gangster fond of playing with fire".

"I will make the man holding the prerogative of the supreme command in the US pay dearly for his speech calling for totally destroying the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea),” said the statement.

The statement responded to Trump's combative speech at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday where he mocked Kim as a "rocket man" on a "suicide mission" and said that if "forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea".

In recent months, North Korea has launched a pair of intercontinental missiles believed capable of striking the continental United States and another pair that soared over Japanese territory.

Earlier this month, North Korea conducted its most powerful nuclear test to date, drawing stiffer UN sanctions.
