Chilling footage has emerged of the gunman who opened fire on a video game tournament in Florida after losing a match bragging about his gaming skills at a previous event.

David Katz, 24, killed two people with a handgun at the Jacksonville Landing complex before shooting himself in horrifying scenes on Sunday afternoon.

Footage from a gaming tournament in Buffalo, New York, last year has now surfaced in which Katz boasts of being “one of the better players”.

The gamer, also known as ‘Bread’, had travelled up from his home in Baltimore for the Madden tournament – in which competitors play an NFL video game.

Katz, the seventh seed, defeated the second seed in a 41-7 win and was interviewed afterwards.

“I don't think of myself as a 7th seed," he said.

“I think personally, I'm one of the better players – and I like to let my game prove that.”

Asked if he was nervous, Katz said: “Honestly, I felt like I had the ball most of the game… I wasn’t really doing too much on defence.”

He added: “I understand the game really well. My opponent probably should've called his timeouts… I took advantage that he didn't.”

Katz ended up winning the tournament and won a place at the Madden Club Series Championship in California – where he lost in the quarter finals.

Before he played in Sunday’s Madden tournament, Katz was introduced by the announcer as “a man of business” who “keeps to himself”.

As well as the two killed in the attack, nine other people were wounded by gunfire but all were in a stable condition on Sunday evening.

The competition was held in a gaming bar that shares space with a pizzeria. Viewers could watch the games online and see the players.
