Britney Spears has hit out at her family and hinted at releasing a new song in a video posted a month after her controversial conservatorship ended.
The star’s personal life and finances were largely controlled by her father, Jamie, under the conservatorship, sparking a fan movement to ‘Free Britney’.
In a new video posted on Instagram, the pop icon vowed to be her “own cheerleader” and hinted she could soon release new music.
The 40-year-old said: “I just realized this today guys… after what my family tried to do to me three years ago… I needed to be my own cheerleader.
“God knows they weren’t… so I just read up on myself. This is what I found: multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning pop icon Britney Spears is one of the most successful and celebrated entertainers in pop history with nearly 100 million records sold worldwide.”
The singer, who has not released an album since 2016, added: “I will be my own cheerleader … why?
“I’m here to remind my white “classy” family that I haven’t forgotten what they did to me nor will I ever forget!
“Pssss new song in the works … I’m gonna let you know what I mean!”
No more details were released on the potential new music, although the video did contain the musician singing notes in front of a mirror.
The star’s father is reportedly asking a court for his daughter to pay his legal fees.
According to Variety, Mr Spears, 69, has petitioned to seek the court’s approval for his daughter to pay his lawyers who are “participating in winding up” the conservatorship.
The fees are reported to be as high as $1,200 (£900) an hour.
The conservatorship began in 2008, with the Toxic singer’s family arguing it was necessary to protect her.
In November, a judge released Spears from the arrangement after she said it had left the popstar traumatised and was doing her more harm than good.
