The UK Eurovision hopeful had her song interrupted after a man stormed the stage during Saturday’s live performance.

SuRie had just taken to the stage to perform her song Storm when the intruder ran in front of cameras and snatched the microphone out of her hands.

The man, wearing a bandanna, appeared to shout something about Nazis "in the UK media" before being wrestled offstage by security.

SuRie was forced to clap along to the music, looking shocked, before she was handed back the mic and able to continue with her performance.

UK host Graham Norton was clearly shocked by the unfolding events, saying: “Well I don’t know what will happen now, whether we will get another performance or not.”

Norton added: "We are still reeling, there was a stage invasion."

He later explained that the singer was offered the chance to perform again but she declined.

He told viewers: "She decided she didn't want to perform again. Who can blame her? She has absolutely nothing to prove.

"She coped beyond admirably. How vulnerable would you feel on stage all by yourself?"

He added: "It doesn't matter, you don't hijack someone's hard earned moment in the spotlight, no matter what your cause."

The man responsible for the invasion was being held in police custody, the official Eurovision account announced.

According to reports, he is a man called Dr ACactivism, who also stormed the stage and interrupted Dermot O'Leary at the National Television Awards this year and The Voice in 2017.

They added that the EBU network "regrets" the incident.

After the interruption, a number of celebrities tweeted their support for the British entry, who eventually finished third from last in the contest. Israel's entry Netta won the event.

Comedian Chris Addison wrote: "Good on her. Well done for handling that brilliantly. Fab job."

JK Rowling wrote: "That was everyone who's ever been on stage's worst nightmare and it must have been scary, but what a pro, what a recovery @surieofficial."

Cheryl Baker tweeted "love your heart" to SuRie and added: "She must be in a state of shock. Where was the security? He could have had a weapon!"

A tweet from BBC Eurovision said: "And... thanks for all your messages to SuRie. We think she smashed it."
