Standard bearer: Boris gives out special copies of the Evening Standard in New York

Boris Johnson was asked to pose for selfies with New Yorkers and tourists when he turned up in Times Square to hand out hundreds of copies of a special edition of the Evening Standard.

The newspaper, printed in New York, featured a photograph of him in a yellow New York taxi.

Nienke Van Der Peet, a model, saw the Mayor and quipped: “I hope he combed his hair.”

The Mayor posed for selfies and gave out copies of the paper

Chris Duckwith, from Leeds, said: “I had no idea he was going to be here.”
