Armed gang drive truck into store and steal full ATM

A gang of armed robbers were caught on CCTV reversing a pick-up truck into a supermarket and driving off with a cash machine.

Shoppers ran as the gang fired several pistol shots into the ceiling of the shop in Lady Frere, Eastern Cape.

The robbers unplugged the newly filled cash machine containing R450,000 (£26,000) and wiggled it to the truck, then drove off. This was over in less than two minutes.

Spar store manager Vuyo Mbimbi told Times LIVE that seven men entered just after 8am on Wednesday.

Incredible: one of the most brazen robberies ever as seven gunmen reverse a low loader truck into a supermarket and drive off with ATM

“They pointed guns at customers then loaded the ATM into a [pick-up truck] they drove in. One of them shot at one of the cameras.

The store was busy with people withdrawing pension money. Nobody was injured.”

Captain Namhla Mdleleni of the South African Police Service said: “No arrests have been made but there is a major police investigation under way.”
