Ankara attacks: Queen expresses 'shock and sadness' after scores killed in bombings in Turkey

The Queen has said she is "shocked and saddened" by the deadly bombings in Turkey which killed nearly 100 people.

In a letter to Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the monarch offered her "heartfelt sympathy" to the Turkish people following Saturday's attacks in the capital Ankara.

She said: "I offer my sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Turkish people at this time.

"I, along with people across the world, have been shocked and saddened by Saturday's attack in Ankara and my thoughts are with all those affected by these terrible events."

At least 95 people were killed, with hundreds of others injured, in two separate blasts during a peace rally near the city's central train station on Saturday.

Three days of national mourning have been declared, as Turkey's security services try to establish who was behind the attack, the deadliest in the country's history.

No group has claimed responsibility.

On Sunday scuffles between crowds and police broke out as mourners tried to lay floral tributes at the scene of the blasts but were held back.
