Al-Qaeda 'blooper reel' released in feud between jihadi factions in Yemen

An Al-Qaeda linked propaganda media outlet has released a blooper reel video aimed at mocking an Islamic State group in Yemen.

It comes as part of an ongoing feud between the two jihadist factions in the country.

The video, released by "Hidayah Media Production", showcases awkward outtakes from a propaganda video made by IS's branch in Yemen in 2017, according to the BBC.

The production company does not reveal how it got hold of the unedited video footage.

In the clip, an IS spokesman can be seen folding and unfolding a piece of paper several times from his pocket as he struggles to remember his lines.

After a number of stops and starts, he is eventually told to place the paper in front of where he is sitting so he can read his lines.

Two other men are also shown to muddle their lines with one repeating several times: "We send you our greetings perfumed with musk."

A caption at the start of the Hidayah video reads: "Look O viewing brother at this scene and [how] they are practising [their scene] in order to show it as spontaneous when, actually, it is a scene they acted out".

The blooper reel was published to mark the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha which many Muslims marked on 11 August, the BBC reports.

Hidayah also attempted to make fun of IS militants in 2016 when the media outfit made a video that accused IS of using the soft drink Vimto as fake blood in a staged battle for one of its films.

It prompted widespread jokes and hashtags on Twitter aimed at IS in Yemen.

The feud between al-Qaeda's branch in Yemen, also known as al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), and IS began in July 2018.

IS militants captured 12 AQAP members after a confrontation at a checkpoint on July 10.

Both groups claim that their rival has targeted the other's position in Qifa in the central Bayda province.

On August 11, IS released a video showing an alleged attack on a member of AQAP the day before, but AQAP denied that any of its fighters were harmed in the assault.
