Women’s History Month 2023: How to celebrate in London, from talks and tours to comedy nights

Women’s History Month is observed every March, with International Women’s Day taking place on March 8.

London institutions will be celebrating with events across the capital throughout the month, from talks and tours, to comedy nights and art workshops.

Women’s History Month is observed annually around the world. It is an extension of International Women’s Day, which has been celebrated since the early 1900s.

More than a century later, women around the world are still fighting for equality.

This March, women are encouraged to celebrate the achievements they have made, and to highlight issues that they continue to face.

Royal Museums Greenwich are hosting events to celebrate Women’s History Month throughout March.

Events include a screening of “Daughters of diaspora” on March 4, “The Female as Subject” drawing workshop on March 10, and “No Direction Home” comedy evening on March 24.

Londoners can learn about the lives of women in the 19th-century navy on March 14, or about the women who shaped the Queen’s House, also on March 14.

The Bank of England Museum is hosting a talk titled “Early Modern British Women and the Financing of Transatlantic Slavery” by Dr Lila O’Leary Chambers, on March 16.

The event is free but attendees must register online by March 15.

The National Gallery is hosting an online live tour for members, led by Fiona Alderton, on March 13.

Alderton will provide a tour of the gallery, exploring paintings representing women.

Curly Treats is celebrating Women’s History Month by hosting a “Dear Black Women and Girls” event on March 11.

The one-day event will involve various activities to celebrate black women and girls.
