Weathermen warn of sun and storms

12 April 2012

Britons should be braced for a mixed bag on the weather front - with forecasters predicting sunshine and storms.

Temperatures could climb to 25C (77F) in London and the South East, while North Wales and northern England will see significantly lower temperatures.

Matt Dobson, from MeteoGroup, said: "It was a real mixed bag on Saturday with temperatures reaching 26C (78F) in central London but with parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland having massive thunderstorms.

"Today is likely to be a repeat performance."

Among the sporting events that will benefit from any good weather this weekend are the tennis finals at the Aegon Championships at Queen's Club in London, and the World Twenty20 Super 8 clash between England and India at Lord's.

Monday will see a return to the cooler and showery conditions that affected many parts of the UK earlier this week.

Mr Dobson said: "On Monday we could see temperatures of 23C but with increasing chances of showers and thunder across the rest of the country."
