A crystal clear night brought a spectacular “starscape” to the cold hills of Herefordshire overnight as the big chill is set to continue for yet another day.

Stunning images show stars scattered across the night sky in Longtown, Herefordshire.

The cold conditions led to clear skies and allowed star gazers to watch a twinkling display for as far as the eye could see.

Elsewhere in the country, plummeting temperatures brought snow and ice to parts of Scotland as the Met Office issued a yellow warning.

Drivers were warned of tricky conditions on the road caused by the plummeting temperatures.

While Londoners managed to avoid the snow, it was still a frosty start to the day with the cold weather looking set to hold out until this evening with highs of 3C to 4C.

Looking ahead, the Met Office predicts that the UK will have a break from chilly conditions over the next week with milder temperatures.

A white Christmas is now looking unlikely, forecasters said.

Sunday night will see the weather clear with some areas in the South East experiencing lows of -1C or -2C, however it will not reach the cold temperatures we have been experiencing this past week.

Forecaster, Craig Snell did warn of fog in Manchester and the Midlands which could disrupt commuters on Monday morning.

When the fog clears there will be some winter sunshine for most of England and Wales.

London can look forward to highs of 10C and 11C as temperatures look set to rise midweek,

Elsewhere in the country there will be further spells of rain and wind coming in from the South West in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Further north there will also be spells of rain later in the week.

Mr Snell said that anyone looking to get away for Christmas on Friday will be met with minimal disruption as there will be no major risk of snow or ice near the close of the week.
