Two men have appeared in court charged with murdering footballer Cody Fisher at a Birmingham nightclub on Boxing Day.

The 23-year-old non-league player and school sports coach was fatally stabbed on the dance floor of the Crane nightclub in Digbeth.

Kami Carpenter, 21, and Remy Gordon, 22, were remanded in custody on Monday after appearing at Birmingham Crown Court.

The men, both from Birmingham, were not asked to enter a plea to a charge of murdering Mr Fisher.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to a linked charge of affray, also alleged to have taken place on Boxing Day.

Following a four-minute hearing before two magistrates, the pair were ordered to reappear before a judge at the same court on Wednesday.

The case and several others was listed at Birmingham Crown Court because the nearby magistrates’ court was closed.

Mr Fisher had played for several non-league Midlands clubs, most recently Stratford Town.
