Two held after teenager stabbed

12 April 2012

Detectives are questioning two men arrested after a teenager was stabbed to death in the street.

The 19-year-old man suffered fatal wounds in a street in east London after an altercation with a group of men.

A second victim, aged 17, also suffered stab wounds in the incident in the early hours of this morning in High Road, Ilford.

He was taken to an east London hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Two men, both aged in their 20s, were arrested nearby and taken to separate east London police stations.

Police said they believe they know the identity of the dead teenager but await formal identification and the results of a post mortem examination before releasing his name.

Detectives are examining a knife found after the stabbing. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "A weapon has been recovered but it is too early to say if it is the murder weapon."

Detective Chief Inspector John MacDonald from Scotland Yard's homicide and serious crime command said: "I am appealing for anyone who may have been in the Ilford High Road or Clements Road area to come forward and contact police.

"As the incident unfolded, we understand a group of people gathered in the Clements Road area who I believe would have witnessed the incident.

"In particular, I am keen to speak to a young female in that group who may have had some interaction with the suspects prior to the attack."
