A soldier who claimed he was subjected to racial abuse is to sue the Ministry of Defence.

Pte Kerry Hylton, who serves with the Welsh Guards, is to take the MoD to an employment tribunal on the grounds of race discrimination.

A spokesman from the Central London Employment Tribunal confirmed that the hearing would take place next month.

Reports detailed a number of claims including allegations that Pte Hylton was racially abused and that locks in his married quarters were blocked with super glue.

Pte Hylton is reportedly set to leave the Army following his ordeal.

A spokesman for the MoD said discrimination claims were taken "very seriously".

He said: "The Armed Forces aim to achieve a working environment free from harassment, intimidation and discrimination.

"The Armed Forces take complaints of harassment and discrimination very seriously.

"Such allegations are investigated thoroughly and, where proven, appropriate action is taken."
