Calling all Shrek fans: you can now rent the iconic swamp house from the popular animated film on Airbnb.

“I’m absolutely delighted to invite you in for a fairytale stay,” Donkey said in a description of the listing posted to Airbnb.

“Shrek’s Swamp is lovely. Just beautiful. The perfect place to entertain guests,” Donkey said. “You know what I like about it? Everything. The overgrown landscaping, the modest interiors, the nice boulders, all of it. I can’t wait for guests to experience this muddy slice of paradise for themselves.”

Located in the Scottish Highlands, Shrek’s Swamp is a recreation of the ogre’s home, with an impressive amount of detail.  The secluded home is surrounded by trails and perfect picnic spots, with forests filled with conifer trees. There’s also limited light pollution so you don’t have to worry about not being able to see the night sky.

How to book Shrek’s Swamp on Airbnb

Shrek’s Swamp is available for just one weekend, between October 27-29, 2023. Bookings open on October 13 at 6pm BST.

If you’re lucky enough to be able to book, you’ll notice signs dotted around the lead-up to the house, such as “Danger”, “Stay Out”, and “Beware Ogre”. But that’s just Shrek’s way of welcoming you. Guests will find a toilet, sink, and shower at an off-site location about 20 metres away from the swamp itself.

However, staying at Shrek’s Swamp isn’t a contest. Shrek fans can stay at the house for just £0 a night. All guests have to do is make sure they have an active Airbnb profile with a good track record on the platform, own a Government-issued ID, and be at least five years of age, in addition to several other terms and conditions.

Guests are also responsible for their own travel to and from Scotland.

The property is owned by Ardverikie Estate, and Airbnb is making a one-time donation to Scotland’s HopScotch Children’s Charity as part of this promotion.

When is the next film in the Shrek series being released?

Movie boss Chris Meledandri said recently that he hopes Mike Meyers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), and Cameron Diaz (Fiona) return for Shrek 5 to reprise their characters.

“We anticipate the cast coming back,” Meledandri said, though he added that no deals have been signed as yet. “Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return.”

The first Shrek debuted in 2001, with sequels Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek The Third (2007), and Shrek: Forever After (2010) each following three years apart. Holiday specials Shrek the Halls and Scared Shrekless were also released, in 2007 and 2010 respectively. Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, was released in 2022.
