A schoolboy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was pushed into a river.

The teenager is one of two 14-year-olds to be questioned by police after a video emerged on social media.

It reportedly shows a man being punched and pushed into the water in the market town of Marlborough in Wiltshire.

The officers made the arrests on Thursday when two armed response vehicles were sent to two addresses.

“We have arrested two 14-year-old boys in connection with two incidents which have been filmed and circulated on social media,” a Wiltshire Police spokesperson said.

“The first appears to show a man being punched and the second shows the same person being pushed into a river in Marlborough.

“A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm. And a second 14-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm.

“Both have been released on conditional bail while further enquiries continue.”

The force is appealing to anyone who encounters the footage not to share it.
