A retired vet who was found dead in his garden was attacked by seven dogs, including his own.

It is still being determined if Antony Harrington died from the dog bites or if he was already dead when the animals set on him.

The 77-year-old had six dogs belonging to a friend staying with him and his black Russian terrier at his home in Little Packington, Warwickshire.

He died last November, after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest, The Sun reports.

A source quoted by the newspaper said: “Tony always loved animals and had a huge black terrier of his own.

“What happened is horrific — no one knows why the dogs attacked him.

“He was found in the garden and bits of his clothes had been scattered around the grass.

“His family are distraught and hope the investigation can help them understand what happened.”

Police seized all seven dogs, which are said to have included a few large Bernese Mountain dogs.

A 75-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of owning a dog dangerously out of control. She has since been released on bail.

Harrington, a father of three, used to run a veterinary surgery in Birmingham with his wife Louise, who has now passed.
