A phallic-shaped statue cheered viewers after being brought onto Antiques Roadshow by a vicar.

Fans of the show bombarded social media with comments about the statue of St George gripping the head of his dragon foe.

Reverend Stella Bailey had brought the effigy with her as part of a collection of statues of saints from the St Mary Magdalen church in Coventry to be valued during Sunday night’s episode.

Examining the object, the BBC1 show’s expert, Philip Mould, said: “Ah, I see he’s wrestling with it [the dragon].”

He then asked Reverend Bailey how the statue “went down” with the congregation.

She admitted it had been banished to the organ loft because of how it looked when viewed side-on.

Fans of the show took to Twitter to share jokes about the statue with one viewer claiming Antiques Roadshow should have been on “past the watershed”.

Lucy Gosling said: "Brilliant. A vicar has brought a mucky, congregation-offending St. George statue onto #antiquesroadshow."

Another wrote: “Is that vicar making phallic jokes? #AntiquesRoadshow.”

Stuart Brandwood tweeted: “Loving the vicar on #AntiquesRoadshow finding out she had £50k worth of statues chucked into the choirloft. Dodgily shaped St George was ace.”

Jon quipped: “#AntiquesRoadshow should be on past the watershed tonight!"

Reverend Bailey’s whole collection of statues was valued at £50,000, with the problematic St George valued at £2,000 to £3,000.
