Chocolate fans have reacted with fury after Cadbury dropped the beloved fudge bar from its festive selection box.

The old favourite has been replaced by a dairy milk oreo bar, leading some to claim that “Christmas is ruined”.

The biscuit-based newcomer joins the wispa, crunchie, double decker, dairy milk and chocolate buttons in the selection box, which costs £2.99.

Fans of the boxes, which are a popular Christmas gift, have taken to Twitter to lambast Cadbury over the controversial move.

Mark Attwood wrote to the chocolate manufacturer: “I am most upset that my selection box is missing a fudge. My Christmas is now ruined!”

Twitter user Nigel Quinlan accused the firm of waging a “war on Christmas”, while Laura Moore simply said: “That’s not on.”

Many others bemoaned the loss of the fudge, labelling it an “absolute disgrace” and calling for a “revolution against this chocolate tyranny”.

Launched in 1948 under the name ‘milk fudge’, the bar is one of Birmingham-based Cadbury’s most iconic bars.

Throughout the 1970s it was advertised with the slogan: “A finger of fudge is just enough to give your kids a treat”.

Cadbury describes the bar on its website as: "Everyone’s favourite finger of irresistibly scrumptious soft fudge, wrapped in smooth Cadbury milk chocolate."

The Standard has contacted Cadbury for comment.
