Murder probe after stabbing in flat

12 April 2012

A murder inquiry was under way after a man was found stabbed to death inside a flat above a city centre bar.

The body of 20-year-old Matthew James Pyke was discovered by ambulance crews called to his flat above the Orange Tree pub in North Sherwood Street, Nottingham, at about 6.15pm on Friday.

Detectives believe that Mr Pyke's killer or killers would have been heavily blood-stained following the murder and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said a post-mortem examination carried out at Leicester Royal Infirmary had confirmed that Mr Pyke died from stab wounds.

The spokesman said the scene was being examined by forensic investigators while detectives are conducting house-to-house inquiries in the local area.

"Police believe the offender or offenders would have been heavily blood-stained when they left the property," the spokesman added.

Anyone with information which could assist the inquiry is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 0115 9670999 or the Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
