Murder accused to fight DNA bid

12 April 2012

A British man accused of murdering his American wife and baby is expected to appear in a US court as his lawyer fights a prosecution request for a sample of his DNA.

The Middlesex District Attorney's office has reportedly filed a motion asking for the specimen from Neil Entwistle.

But his lawyer, Elliott Weinstein, told the Boston Globe he would oppose the request at a pre-trial hearing in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He did not explain why the sample was being sought or why he was against it.

The motion has been sealed by Superior Court Judge Peter Lauriat.

Entwistle, 27, denies fatally shooting his wife Rachel, also 27, and their nine-month-old daughter, Lillian Rose, in January.

He is accused of killing them at their home in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, before flying to England and going to his parents' house in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.

The unemployed IT worker was arrested in London on February 9 and agreed to return to the US to face murder charges.

A police affidavit alleges that DNA matching his was found on the grip of the .22 calibre revolver he is accused of killing his wife and child with.

Rachel's mother and stepfather, Joseph and Priscilla Matterazzo, plan to attend the hearing at Middlesex Superior Court, the Globe said.

Entwistle also denies illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition. He is expected to face trial in April next year.
