Meghan Markle texted her dad "to say she loves him" and she "bears him no ill will" after it was revealed he had staged a number of paparazzi photos.

Prince Harry's soon-to-be father-in-law, Thomas Markle Sr, 73, was set to walk Ms Markle down the aisle before controversy erupted over a set of staged paparazzi photographs.

Mr Markle had since said he still hoped to make an appearance at the wedding until he was told he required urgent heart surgery.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Sean Mandell, of celebrity gossip site TMZ, said: "She has called him, she called him on Monday, after our first story broke.

"I do get the sense that he does want to be reunited with Meghan, because he told us that he wanted to be there...

"He originally felt it would be better for him not to be at the wedding because it would cause further embarrassment, he thought, for the Royal family, and for Meghan, which is the last thing he wanted.

"At the end of the day he realised, 'I'm a father, and I want to be there for my daughter, and I want to be part of history'.

"But ultimately his health prevented him from being able to do that."

The news comes after it emerged Ms Markle's estranged half-bother, Thomas Jr, had flown to London ahead of the Royal wedding on Saturday to show support for his sister.

He told the Mirror his sister will "be the perfect princess" - just weeks after penning a furious letter warning Prince Harry to call off their wedding.

He said: “My sister’s going to be one of the best things ever to have happened to the royal family.

“She will be the perfect modern princess. I wish Meg and Harry nothing but a happy and healthy future together.”

The pair are set to tie the knot in the grounds of Windsor Castle on Saturday, May 19.
