A man received the shock of his life after tucking into his Aldi sausages only to find what he believed was a worm.

Geoff Rowe, 45, from Leicester, was getting ready to wolf down his fry-up when his sister-in-law cut open one of her sausages.

But the pair were left disgusted after claiming they found a large worm squirming through the meat.

Mr Rowe said his sister-in-law is "still feeling sick at the thought she could have eaten a worm".

He had purchased the pork bangers from an Aldi supermarket in Fakenham, Norfolk, the day before.

Upon discovery of the gruesome creature he shared the image on Twitter.

He wrote: "Hello @AldiUK can you confirm what we should do given we've found a worm in one of your sausages #yuk"

But the supermarket chain responded and said the so-called "worm" is actually likely to be a piece of sausage casing.

A spokesman said: "We are sorry to hear about Mr Rowe's experience.

"Our supplier has advised us that, from the photographs, the article is likely to be apiece of sausage casing, but we have requested that Mr Rowe returns the product to his local store so that we can fully investigate this as a matter of urgency."
