12 April 2012

A 34-year-old man has appeared in court charged with assaulting two police officers during an incident in which a third officer died.

Patrick Savage was arrested on Wednesday after police were called to a house in Brinkburn Gardens, Wembley, north London at around 5.45pm.

One of the officers present at the scene, Pc Chris Roberts, 47, collapsed and died of a heart attack outside the property.

Savage was initially detained on suspicion of murder, but was later de-arrested and faces no charges in relation to Pc Roberts' death.

At Brent Magistrates' Court, Savage, of North Circular Road, north London, pleaded not guilty to one count of assaulting a woman, two counts of assaulting police officers and two counts of resisting officers executing their duty.

He was remanded in custody until a pre-trial hearing at the court on January 4.
