Man’s body found on fire in ‘unexplained’ death in Mitcham

A man has died after his body was found on fire in a street in Mitcham, police have said.

Emergency crews scrambled to Commonside East just after 6am on Thursday to reports of a man on fire.

Officers attended and the body of a man was found. Enquiries are ongoing to establish his identity.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained, Met Police said.

The investigation is being led by homicide detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command.

A spokesman for the force said: "Enquiries are ongoing to establish the man's identity. The death is currently being treated as unexplained.

"A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course."
