Katie Price backs Sharon Osbourne in Madeleine McCann rant row

Sebastian Mann24 May 2016

Katie Price backed Sharon Osbourne as she claimed Kate and Gerry McCann were wrong to leave three-year-old Madeleine alone on holiday.

Mother-of-five Price said Osbourne had been right to brand the couple "insane" to leave the toddler alone on the night she disappeared.

Loose Women audience members applauded as Price said she "totally" backed the comments, explaining: “It doesn’t matter who you are, you do not leave your children.

“If you’re on holiday your kids can sleep in buggies, they can sleep on the side, why in your right mind would you leave your kids in a room?”

Vanished: Madeleine McCann disappeared in 2007

The 38-year-old added: “I don’t care if they say it’s safe place, whether you can see them. Don’t take them on holiday if you want to leave them in a room.”

She said: “They left their baby in the room sleeping, sleeping while they went to dinner in the restaurant.

“And it is like, ‘Oh but we can see everything that is going on’. It is, like, insane.”

The remarks sparked fury, with a friend of the family telling the Mirror: “It’s very disappointing when someone with such a high profile makes this sort of ignorant, ill-informed comment.

“She should think about the effect it could have on Madeleine’s brother and sister, as well as the wider family.”

Madeleine vanished in May 2007 while on a family holiday in Portugal’s Praia da Luz resort.

The child has never been found, although Scotland Yard said as recently as April this year that detectives had still not given up hope of finding her.
