Hit-and-run collision victim named

12 April 2012

Police have named an 11-year-old boy killed when a car mounted the pavement as he walked home from a church youth service.

Sam Riddall died after the car ploughed into him and his friends on Friday evening in Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol.

The female driver fled the scene and police renewed their appeal to find her.

Sam was walking along Eastfield Road with three other children and an adult man at around 9.15pm after leaving a youth club service at the nearby Henleaze and Westbury Community Church.

The white Ford Focus estate car was travelling along Eastfield Road towards the centre of the village when it careered off the road, mounted the pavement and hit the group.

Skid marks along the road and pavement show where the car screeched across the kerb towards a wall and then veering back onto the road.

Witnesses said that the car then hit other vehicles parked on the road.

The three other children were uninjured while the man received minor injuries and was released from hospital later that evening.

Floral tributes have been laid at the scene of the accident.
