It comes after the young girl was trolled online when she was captured on live television in tears after the 2-0 defeat at the European Championships.
Shortly after the tirade of abuse, Joel Hughes, from Pontypridd set up a JustGiving page with the aim of raising £500 to show that “not everyone from the UK is horrible and that we care”.
But a week after the match, more than £36,000 had been donated by thousands of people.
In an update posted by JustGiving, the fundraising company said the family of the young girl had been found and they have asked that the funds raised be sent to charity.
The statement from the family read: “In the interests of our daughter and our family we would like to remain private however we wish to thank everyone for your amazing support.
“Our daughter would like to request your generous donations go to UNICEF, knowing that your kindness will do good.”
UNICEF is the United Nations’ children’s agency and works in over 190 countries to save children’s lives and defend their rights.
JustGiving said in their statement “the legacy of the support from thousands of donors is that thousands of children from around the world will benefit”.
