Fatboy Slim has paid tribute to Greta Thunberg by performing a mashup of her United Nations speech and his song Right Here, Right Now to a crowd in Gateshead.

The mix, filmed by a crowd member, opens with Miss Thunberg’s speech about the climate crisis delivered to world leaders last month over opening bars of the DJ's hit track.

“People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction. And all you can talk about is money,” the 16-year-old Swedish climate activist can be heard saying.

“You are failing us, and the young people are starting to understand your betrayal. The eyes of all future generations are upon you.

“We will not let you get away with this. Right here, right now is where we draw the line. The world is waking up. And change is coming, whether you like it or not.”

The word’s “right here, right now” replace the original sample throughout the song.

Fatboy Slim, whose real name is Norman Cook, performed the mashup live on Friday night, after it appeared on social media in late September.

Musician David Scott from the Kiffness made the original clip, which played to scenes of icebergs breaking up, a news clip of a Donald Trump speech with the tagline ‘hoax’ and the Amazon on fire.

Scott Jackson, 40, from Middlesbrough, filmed the live performance and posted it on Facebook.

He captioned it: “Don’t mind a bit of Greta Thunberg on a night out. What a night at Shindig for Fatboy Slim! #HOWDAREYOU!”

It has since been shared over a thousand times.

Miss Thunberg’s speech went viral after she delivered it in New York.

World leaders and celebrities rallied in support of the teenage activist.

President Trump tweeted a video of the speech with the apparently sarcastic caption: “She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!”
