Council apologises after binman defecates on resident's driveway

A council has issued an apology after one of its binmen defecated on a resident’s driveway.

Malvern Hills District Council’s chief executive, Chris Bocock, has said he will personally apologise after the refuse worker used the man’s property as a toilet.

The resident, who did not want to be named, told the Worcester News he decided to complain because twice previously a binman has urinated in the same place on his driveway in Ryall, Worcestershire.

He said: “It’s pretty vile. I could almost have forgiven him if he had made sure he got back and it had all gone when I got home.”

He also said he would have let the worker use his toilet if he had asked.

Mr Bocock said the binman had been disciplined following the incident on January 17, and had also offered to personally apologise to the resident.

He said: “As soon as the incident was reported to us by the customer we accepted full responsibility and took immediate action by sending out an operative to make sure the area was cleaned and sanitised.

“However, I understand that he remains frustrated at some aspects of the council’s action and I shall therefore be meeting with him to offer my personal apologies on behalf of the council in an attempt to resolve the situation.”

He said the council was reviewing staff toilet arrangements for refuse crews.
