Briton held in Laos to meet lawyer

A British lawyer has arrived in Laos hoping to delay the trial of a pregnant woman from south London who could face death by firing squad if she is convicted of drug smuggling.

Reprieve's Anna Morris has been given permission to see Samantha Orobator on Tuesday but fears her hastily arranged trial could go ahead even before then.

The 20 -year-old was arrested at Wattay Airport in August last year after she was allegedly caught with 680g of heroin. In Laos, smuggling more than 500g carries a mandatory death sentence.
