An American man has received an amusing letter from Buckingham Palace after he asked the Queen to take back control of the USA amid his frustration with the Republican presidential candidates.

The Anglophile penned a note to the Queen as candidates including Donald Trump, Jeb Bush and Scott Walker, fight it out to become the next US leader.

And incredibly the Queen responded, albeit through one of her aides.

The letter, which was shared online by the American's friend and had been viewed more than 2.5million times today, politely explained why the Queen could not be expected to take back the reigns of power in America.

It reads: "I have been asked to write in response to your recent letter to The Queen in which you express your views about the American government."

"Whilst your views have been noted, you will appreciate, I am sure, that there will be no question of the Queen intervening in the affairs of another Sovereign state."

The letter was shared online with the caption: "Frustrated with the current field of presidential candidates (particularly on the GOP [Republican] side), my Anglophile friend wrote a trolling letter to the Queen, asking her to take the US back.

"To our shock, they actually dignified him with a response."

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace today said it was investigating whether the letter was genuine, adding that it was "probably real".
