Commuters face disruption to their morning routes after TfL announced a heavily used entrance to Finsbury Park station is to close.

The Wells Terrace entrance will be closed from July 18 for major redevelopment work at the station and a larger entrance will open in 2019.

The station will operate a one-way system while the Wells Terrace entrance is closed.

People will be asked to enter via Station Place and exit via the Seven Sisters road side.

Station bosses are advising people to allow extra time for journeys and to change trains at Kings Cross to avoid congestion.

The closure will make way for two new lift shafts in the station used by over 28 million passengers a year and will also involve the temporary closure of the station's main staircase.

A Transport for London statement said: “Our work at Finsbury Park Tube station will provide step-free access in 2018, reduce congestion and improve security and safety.

“During the evening peak we may use a one-way system that will mean customers can exit the platform via the spiral staircase only. The station will be busier than normal so follow signs and staff directions, and allow extra time for your journey.”
