Passengers faced huge delays on a major London commuter route following an "emergency services incident" at Romford station.
Massive queues built at Liverpool Street station after the incident at about 6pm on Monday.
Dozens of services were affected, with many ceasing to run completely, and train operators warned disruption would continue as late as 11pm.
Greater Anglia said in a statement at around 7pm: "Owing to emergency services dealing with an incident at Romford all line are blocked. No trains are currently departing Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria, Colchester, Ipswich and Norwich.
"London bound train services from Southend Victoria, Colchester, Ipswich and Norwich. will be terminated and started at Shenfield."
Shortly before 9pm, the operator added: “Following emergency services dealing with an incident at Romford all lines are now open.
“Train services running through this station may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.”

British Transport Police and the London Ambulance Service did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
